California’s CCPA as amended by the CPRA, and comparable laws in other US states, give you the right to stop your personal information being ‘sold’ or ‘shared’ for cross-context behavioural advertising. This page explains how that applies to handmend.com and how to exercise the right.

After the Request

Once opted out, we stop sharing advertising identifiers with ad partners. Advertising itself may continue in generic form. There is no penalty of any kind: the site is not degraded, restricted, or priced differently for readers who opt out.

What ‘Sale’ and ‘Share’ Mean

No money changes hands for your data. The relevant practice is this: where advertising runs, ad partners may receive cookie or device identifiers associated with your browser. Because ‘sale’ and ‘sharing’ are defined broadly in these statutes, that may qualify — so we offer the opt-out regardless.

It applies site-wide, to casual visitors and regular readers alike.
